Frequently asked questions.

How do I book with you?

Begin by filling out my contact form, which is located in the CONTACT tab of my website. I will be in touch with you to talk further about your creative vision, including the date, location, and what to bring to the shoot on the day. I do not have a personal studio, therefore we may be booking a studio which could include an extra fee, or choosing a space, indoors or outdoors, in the city.

We can communicate via email, or if you are more comfortable with phone or zoom call, we can arrange that as well.

Note that before booking with me, I have the right to use any photos taken within the session for my marketing and branding, putting the photos on my website / social media platforms.

What are your prices based on?

I base my prices on my experience level (6+ years), the time I put into the shoot and retouching, and additionally, the average prices that other portrait photographers in Vancouver are charging. I am very dedicated to my work, and my price reflects that. I may give you a discount if you are a family member or friend / don’t have as large of a budget, but it is subject to each client.

How many photographs will I get?

It depends if you are choosing digital or film options. For digital, I take up to 100 photos per shoot, depending on the concept and what shots are needed. I will typically cut that down to around 30-40, and give you a digital folder of a few preview images with my watermark attached. This way you can decide if the editing overall is to your liking, and after payment goes through, I will send the remaining photos.

For film photography, a roll of film is typically 24-36 shots, depending on the brand and type of film. There is an additional fee for film photography as the film canisters are around $15-20. However, some clients prefer this option because despite this extra fee, you will receive 24-36 shots, and therefore it is the cheaper option.

How do I submit payment?

I will send a preview google drive / dropbox folder of 3-5 photos with my professional watermark attached, giving you an idea of the editing I have done. If you would like any changes to the colouring / re-touching, you can ask for changes at this point. I will change what was asked, and resend them until you are happy with the result. After that, I will email a invoice with the shoot price + any additional editing fees / film charge, and once I receive confirmation of payment through e-transfer, I will send the remaining photos in the same folder without a watermark. Note that my metadata is still included in these images, meaning the files can still be traced back to my copyright (meaning don’t steal my photos without credit please!). I ask that you duplicate this folder, therefore I can delete it off my drive to save space for other projects.

When you receive the photos, I ask that you fill out a quick survey on how your experience was, which may be included as a testimonial on my website.

Can I get your photos printed?

I do not offer printing services, but my image files are the standard 300 dpi resolution for prints up to 36 x 48.

Which camera do you use?

For digital, I use a Sony A6600 I have had for the last two years. In terms of lenses, I have a standard kit lens ranging from 18-55 mm, and I am in the market to explore others.

What if I don’t know how to pose?

Not a problem! I’ve shot many people who tell me, “I’m very awkward in front of cameras,” and 9 times out of 10, they are surprised by what I can capture. I use a technique of allowing my model to constantly move and not feel so “frozen” in a pose, allowing the client to explore and become more comfortable. I often talk to my clients as well and capture the in-between moments of smiles and posing to make the photos more authentic, so do not stress!

Do you send your raw files?

I do all my own re-touching, and prefer not to send RAW files to clients. The file sizes are massive and tend to clog up standard laptops without a proper external hard drive. Also, wouldn’t you rather get the beautiful, touched up photo instead?

Will you Photoshop this out?

Depending on the client, some ask for complete acne re-touching, hair details, etc. I have always gone for a more natural approach to my editing, which includes skin smoothing, colour adjusting, exposure details, and distraction removal, but there are limits to how far I will go. I will not change how you look, so don’t ask for face reconstructions or anything along those lines.

What are you not willing to shoot?

My portfolio is a broad spectrum of different photography types. I tend to call myself a portrait photographer because my primary work is shooting people, especially creative shoots, but that is not all that I do. I enjoy photographing concerts, landscapes, lifestyle (more event based like graduation portraits / life moments like maternity, couples, etc.), branding like headshots, and engagements. You can see the full list of what I offer on my contact page. My limit usually revolves around how large an event is. I have a disability that causes me to get overwhelmed in larger group settings, so I tend to decline larger weddings and public events. That does not mean I will not shoot any weddings or events — elopements or small gatherings are entirely okay! I want to ensure I can give my client the best product. Therefore, I have set a boundary for specific circumstances. If you are needing a wedding photographer, I know many in the Vancouver area and would be happy to send recommendations by email!

In terms of photographing portraits, I do a variety of things, including individual and group portraits, family portraits, couple portraits, pet portraits, etc. I am open to doing boudoir as well, but I will not photograph full nudity.

Do you do collaborations with brands?

I love collaborating with fellow artists, clubs, brands, etc. If an established company reaches out, there is an expectation that I am a freelance photographer and, therefore, still need to be paid. I will not accept “exposure” on their social media as a form of payment, as I know my work is worth more than that. Please contact me to discuss further details and prices may adjust depending on the project.
